My Book Reviews, Top 3 reads of 2016 so far!

My Favorite top 3 Reads of 2016 so far with Reviews:

Today, I'm gonna talk about my favorite reads of 2016 so far, and I wanna hear all about yours! These are in NO particular order. Ready? Let's get going!

Stacey Marie Brown

From Burning Ashes (Collector Series Book 4) Review

Stacey Marie Brown delivers a fantastic conclusion to the Collector Series. I have anticipated this book from the moment I finished the last one. I was not disappointed. From Burning Ashes picks up right where Across the Divide leaves off. From beginning to end it is well-written, fast paced, action packed, suspenseful, sexy, and hilarious.

I can't believe that Burning Ashes is the last installment to an utmost amazing series that will stay with me forever. I honestly can say that with tears in my eyes.

This series is a must read for all of you who enjoy a hot as hell series that brings every emotion out of you with a well written story line, and well defined characters that you can not help but fall in love with - Very protective and strong Alpha male viking (Ryker) An Amazing hot pirate (Croygen) A bad Ass heroine (Zoey) and last but not least the most adorable sprite ever (Sprig) I know you all will think that I'm getting all dramatic with this review. However, This series is one that will stick with you and is one that you seriously do not want to end. (now the tears) This last installment had me on all of the feels, tears, laughter, and pure adrenaline rush.

Action packed delivery with just the right punch! Not to mention the very well written love scenes. I will really miss this series, and hope that one day Stacey will surprise us with another collector series book. Hey, a girl can ask right?

Stacey Marie Brown has become one of my favorite authors - And I can't wait to see what she has up her sleeve for us next! Bring it Stacey! I'm ready!

Amelia Hutchins

Playing with Monsters

I have to say that Amelia kicks this story in the butt!!! I was blown away with the depth at which Amelia Hutchins tells a story. The plot is well developed and leaves you with wanting more from the characters she creates and the world she has created. This story has appearances from others in the Fae Chronicles and they become interwoven into the new path the story takes. Magdalena is from a powerful line of witches Many things happen in the story as the Awakening begins that will keep you wanting more, and more. Did I happen to say that this story will have you wringing out your panties? NO, well I just said it. Very intense and powerful! All the feels in this story!!! No instant romance, but realistic relationship building we can all identify with. With really explosive passion .... Wink wink ;-)

I personally think this author is one of my favorite authors! Her books chew you up into little bits, then spit you out, only to stomp all over you before putting you back together at the end.

S.L. Jennings

Born Sinner (Se7en Sinners Book 1)

Hands down in awe of S.L Jennings. She will take you on a thrill journey full of action, complete hotness, and oh did I say hotness? The characters are well formed as well as the plot. You actually feel as if you are in the story! As of now, this on my top 10 books of the year that I have read thus far! I was so on the edge of my seat. Total nail biting, frantically reading as fast as I can because I was addicted. SL Jennings kicks this paranormal romance story out of the park! I first fell in love with her writing with the Dark Light Series and this book just took me to another place. A place of fallen angels, demons, and warlocks. I need a 10 star I would highly recommend it! Even if you normally don’t read paranormal, try it out. It is amazing-balls!

Meeting Tyler Marek for the first time makes it easy for Easton to see why his son is having trouble in school. The man knows how to manage businesses and wealth, not a teenage boy. Or a young teacher, for that matter, though he tries to. And yet…there is something about him that draws Easton in—a hint of vulnerability, a flash of attraction, a spark that might burn.

Wanting him is taboo. Needing him is undeniable. And his long-awaited touch will weaken Easton’s resolve—and reveal what should stay hidden…

(*STANDALONE, NO CLIFFHANGER*)

Misconduct - Excerpt

I narrowed my eyes, ready to object, but he grabbed my elbow and led me away from the group so fast I nearly stumbled along the brick path.

“What are you doing?” I whispered as he moved his hand to my back, continuing to lead me off the patio and into the house.

But he didn’t answer.

Most of the guests were outside, but there were a few scattered about, browsing around the house, as well as servers gathering food and supplies to refresh the tables.

“Tyler, someone will see us,” I whisper-yelled this time, trying to dig in my heels and stop him.

But once we were past the bustle of the kitchen, he took my hand and pulled me down the dimmed hallway and past the foyer to his den.

He opened the door, dragged me inside, and slammed it closed. Releasing my hand, he walked behind his desk and crossed his arms over his chest, locking eyes with me.

What the hell was wrong with him?

The woman simply wanted an introduction. Did he think I didn’t know how to be discreet? She couldn’t possibly have recognized me.

Or maybe he was angry about my behavior before she arrived. I guess I wasn’t so discreet.

“What did he say to you?” Tyler barked out. “When he whispered in your ear?”

I cocked my head, choosing to be stubborn.

“Does it matter?” I played.

He shook his head, letting out a bitter laugh. “Not everything that’s in your head needs to come out of your mouth,” he scolded.

Ah, now we were getting somewhere.

“Are you angry because of what I said or because I drew attention to myself?” I inquired, crossing my arms as well. “Maybe I shouldn’t wear any short skirts either.”

He placed his hands palm down on his desk and glared at me. “That’s not what this is about.”

“Right.” I smiled. “Let me guess. I forgot my place. Legs open, mouth closed, right?”

He pulled up, slowly circling the desk and looking down at me. “Don’t be dramatic.”

My skin tingled, and my heart sped up. “What are you really mad about?”

“What did he say say to you?” His full bottom lip was tight with tension.

“I forgot.” I shrugged. “Something about his dick.”

His entire face hardened. “I should’ve hit him.”

“Then why didn’t you?”

“Because I’m not a child!” he bellowed. “I’m an adult who picks his battles. I don’t just run off, half-cocked, no matter how much I wanted to see him bloody for even getting near you.”

“Too bad,” I taunted, a slight smile on my lips. “If you had, I’d be in here on my knees, sucking your dick right now instead of thinking about his.”

His eyes flared, and he bared his teeth. Grabbing me by the jaw in one hand and hovering his lips just over mine, he slowly swung me around and slammed my ass against the desk, the small tray of file folders on the corner spilling to the floor.

My blood raced. Yes.

My Take:

I received an arc for a honest review

I absolutely LOVED everything about this book! Thirty five year old Tyler Marek and twenty three year old Easton Bradbury’s first interaction is like gasoline combustible and I was engrossed from that moment on.
Easton has a tragic past and very believable, real issues as a consequence. Those issues gave her, her vulnerabilities and made it easy to understand her. but she’s also very down to earth, strong, and very sassie. As for Mr. Marek… where was he when I was twenty three? Um, I'd take him even now!!  Talk about HOT. This whole book is HOT. And it’s not just the smoldering sex scenes that make it like an inferno. I love it when the two main characters banter back and forth and this story has it going on.  Misconduct was a fun sexy twist on a teacher romance. This one a little bit different than anything I've read lately because it wasn't about a teacher and a student, but a teacher and a parent. One of my favorite reads of 2015 on my hands. Penelope Douglas just keeps getting better and better. I have read every one of her books, and will continue to do so even without any description or blubs about it.  She is that good of an author that you can trust that If she wrote it, I’m reading it. 5 stars all the way.  Penelope you knocked this out of the park.

My Book Reviews, Soul of Dust by Adam Millard

TITLE: Soul of Dust
AUTHOR: Adam Millard

PUBLISHER: Roane Publishing

Jack Bridge is having a very bad day.
Life as a private investigator is tough, but it’s even worse when you’re a semi-immortal wizard private investigator whose tolerance for humans grows thinner by the day. Just when he thinks things can’t get worse, in she walks.
Kate West, beautiful and complex in equal measure, with a problem only Jack can solve. Daemons, magic, voodoo, and vamps; it’s all very real, and Jack Bridge is the last line of defense against the creatures of Elsewhere.
Sometimes being semi-immortal just isn’t enough.

My Take:

Adam Millard does it again with this thrilling, suspenseful book. I received an arc for an honest review and I can tell you that I could not put this book down. It was really awesome. Tangle weave of complete awesomeness in this story. I recommend that you read it. You will not be disappointed.

Adam Millard is the author of twenty novels, ten novellas, and more than a hundred short stories, which can be found in various collections and anthologies. Probably best known for his post-apocalyptic fiction, Adam also writes fantasy/horror for children. He created the character Peter Crombie, Teenage Zombie just so he had something decent to read to his son at bedtime. Adam also writes Bizarro fiction for several publishers, who enjoy his tales of flesh-eating clown-beetles and rabies-infected derrieres so much that they keep printing them. His "Dead" series has recently been the filling in a Stephen King/Bram Stoker sandwich on Amazon's bestsellers chart. Adam writes and edits for UK horror website This Is Horror, whose columnists include BC Furtney, Simon Bestwick and Simon Marshall-Jones.

Adam lives with his beautiful wife, Zoe-Ray, and their wonderful son, Phoenix Justice. There are also chickens, rabbits and cats, but the less said about that the better.

The child laughed and nodded, making her blonde curls bob. Hatred burned bright and hot in Metis’ chest as she watched the interaction. While she had been imprisoned, the Mercesti elder had been living a life of pleasure with his avowed…the Kynzesti female named Tate. They and their companions had robbed Metis of thirteen years of her existence.

They didn’t deserve the family they had made. They didn’t deserve happiness.

She was determined to take it from them.

Zachariah’s gaze suddenly shifted to the tree where she stood. Metis darted out of sight and stood absolutely still. She had to force herself not to flee and reveal herself. Fear had her heart thudding in her chest.

Her own reaction infuriated her. He would not hold that kind of sway over her, she silently vowed.

Soon enough, he would be the one who was terrified.

“Daddy, that’s not fair!”

Metis dared another glance and watched the boy, Ryder, rush back and tug on his father’s tank top. She was relieved when Zachariah’s attention turned from her position.

“Eden should be with Mommy,” the boy said, glaring at his sister. “She’s inta-ruptin’ you too!”

“Enough, Ryder.” Zachariah lowered Eden to the ground, brushing his hand absently over her hair in a way that confirmed to Metis that he held affection for her. “Take your sister with you. Uncle Tiege will keep an eye on you both until I finally finish this bloody conversation.”

Ryder’s eyes widened. “You’re not s’posed to say bloody, Daddy. I’m tellin’ Mommy.”

Metis didn’t hear Zachariah’s response. She was too focused on the smaller female, who had apparently lost interest in the conversation. The child bent down and picked up the wooden sword that was nearly the same size as she was, gave it a curious look, then tossed it back to the ground. As Derian wisely bent
to pick up the sword to keep it out of reach, the girl skipped away.

Right to Metis.

In an instant, Metis’ plans changed. She realized that she didn’t have to kill the Mercesti elder to get her revenge. During her imprisonment, she had learned about the sentiment Estilorians harbored for each other. She had learned how to use that kind of useless emotion to manipulate her captors and escape.

She knew she could take something from Zachariah. Something that would hurt just as much as peeling his flesh or ripping out his heart.

Maybe even more.

Just as Derian started after the child, Metis stepped out from behind the tree. She was watching the little girl, but registered that the Mercesti commander hesitated. The child’s gaze lifted to Metis as she stopped in front of her. She started to smile as Metis reached for her, but then her expression froze. Realizing the child sensed danger, Metis acted quickly, grabbing her before she could run.

“Eden!”

Zachariah’s desperate cry had all activity in the area ceasing. Metis met his gaze an instant before she teleported with the screaming child in her grasp, and she knew she had been right. It was the Mercesti elder who was now terrified.

He knew he would never see his little girl again.

My Review:

I was so excited when I got to see the cover for the Estilorian Novel Deceive, and even more excited when I was able to get a copy before it came out to read.

Deceive - Masterly written by Raine Thomas. This was an amazing story where the story starts off from Matis excaping from her prison and set on revenge for 13 years of impresiment. they took every precaution to protect the Estilorian plane against her evil. But, they did not expect her to excape.

Zachariah is the elder of Mercesti and the Father of Eden who was taken at a young age by the evil Metis after her excape. Eden served her Master for years and endoured sever punishments for 15 years. Eden remembers none of her former life. She serves her “Master,” unaware of the family still searching for her. But as her eighteenth birthday approaches, memories begin to surface, and she questions her circumstances for the first time.

Eden’s confusion mounts when she’s joined by Connor, a handsome Elphresti male who reveals things that shatter her reality. They’ll end up on the run, knowing they can trust only each other. After all, Metis will stop at nothing to get them back, and she thrives on her ability to deceive.

I have chills just thinking about this book. There are moments in this book that will make you want to scream, cry, and just get on the emotional rollercoaster that is so brilliantly written.

The book has Action, romance, and will leave you on your seat while you are reading it to get to the next page. Raine Thomas transports you to another world that feels so real, that you want to be apart of it yourself. Such a strong, and loving world, but also has its evils, but the bonds she creates are simply amazing. Amazing book, this is one I can and probably will read over and over again!!

My Book Reviews, His Haunted heart by Lila Felix

Amazon     Goodreads

Six years ago, deep in the swamps of Louisiana, Delilah’s face was marred forever at the hands of her sisters by the point of her mother’s kitchen knife. Despite her protest, her parents insist she make haste in finding a husband. But finding a husband isn’t an easy feat with a scar running the length of your face.
Porter Jeansonne keeps to himself. He lives in his mansion, set apart from the town he’s grown to detest. One night, walking through the town, seeking to collect a debt, he hears a man selling off his daughter in the most deplorable part of the darkened streets. He chooses to take pity on her and set her free from her despicable family. Until he sees her face. He then knows that maybe she is the mend for his haunted heart.

About the author...
I am a stay at home mom from the South and wife to the most giving and hard working husband ever.  I love to cook and try out new recipes even if they don't always turn out like I want them to.  I refer to my kids lovingly as the Three Stooges as they are constantly coming up with new ways to reek havoc in the house.  Most recently that included putting a rubberband on the kitchen sink sprayer so it would douse me when I did the dishes.  I love to go to roller derby bouts and read in my spare time.  I write mostly at night when the house is silent and I can sneak cookies without having to share!  If you're into stalking, try under the Cypress trees in the swamps of Louisiana, but watch out for gators!!

My Review:
This is definitely one if a kind! A true treasure that was created from Lila's dazzling creativeness. I have read many of her books and I have always loved her writing style. But this... this is truly one of my favorites!!! The relationship between Porter and Delilah is so beautiful. Delilah's tragic past prevents her from truly being happy. But when Porter steps into her life the most amazing romance blossoms.

A beautiful and haunting story as these two people learn from one another and grow a relationship built on honesty, trust and eventually love. But that isn't all the story is about. Porter's past, going back many years, will play a pivotal role. And a certain ghost will not make the relationship easy on either of them.

Yes, a ghost! This story is such a unique and refreshing read.

I do recommend this book to anyone and everyone wanting to read some quality writing and storytelling!

I FREAKING loved it!***

Excerpt One: Bleu’s POV

I touch the screen. I stroke my finger down his face but it feels

nothing like the real thing. I close my eyes so I can imagine the

way his scruff felt against my skin.

He rarely grew what I would call a beard. He always kept his facial

hair short and scruffy. And I loved it, especially when he would

drag his face down the center of my body just to hear me squeal.

But the best was when he’d push the crotch of my panties aside

and rub his chin up and down between my legs.

“Holy shit, Bleu. That’s him, isn’t it?” I jerk when I hear Ellison’s

voice over my shoulder. “That’s the man you were with in

Scotland.”

I’m so stupid. I can’t believe I’ve allowed her to sneak up and

catch me looking at this photograph. I was preoccupied. That’s my

only excuse.

Ellison has interrogated me nonstop about my relationship with

Sin. I’ve been vague. She’s on a need-to-know-only basis. That

means I haven’t told her shit. But I want to. I need someone to tell

me this excruciating pain in my heart is going to ease.

“Yes.” That’s my Breck. My admission feels like a ton of bricks

lifted from my shoulders.

“Damn. That is one hottie Scottie.”

“I know.” I sigh as I prop my chin in my hand. I look at the

handsome face of the only man in this world besides my father

who has been willing to take me the way I am.

Two men. Both know the darkness I carry inside. But they love me

anyway.

I’ve lost one. I’m losing the other. And it’s killing me.

“My God, Bleu. Look at the way he’s holding you … like you’re his

everything. I don’t know how you walked away from him.”

You’d be surprised by the things you can do when you’re staring

death in the face.

“My job was over.”

“You haven’t told me anything about it. Or him. Was it good?”

I recall the words he used to describe what being together was like

for him. “The best ever.”

“You don’t think you’ll see him again?”

“No.” I won’t if I want to continue to live.

Excerpt Two: Sinclair’s POV

I’m in the background of Bleu’s life, as I have been for weeks. I

have eyes on her at all times, even when they’re not my own. I

safeguard her from harm. It’s all I’ve done since tracking my lass

down in a small town in Mississippi, right outside of Memphis. I

act as her protector from afar and she has no idea. She believes

she’s hidden from The Fellowship—and me—but she couldn’t be

more wrong. I’m always here, keeping a watchful eye on her and

the MacAllister family.

I often need to be reminded that this is Bleu’s world. Every person

she has contact with isn’t a threat but there’s an enormous

problem with that. I have no idea who’s friend or foe.

I was concerned when Bleu disappeared at the bar with a man

earlier tonight. I was on the verge of barging into the back until

my lass came out on stage to perform with the band. I don’t think

I’ve ever been so surprised in all my life. I knew she played but I

never pegged her for a public performer. That doesn’t seem like

my Bonny at all.

But I guess I don’t really know the real Bleu MacAllister. I only

know the woman she pretended to be.

My Review:
Ruth Clampett is a ROCKSTAR!!! I was given an ARC of this fab book in return for an honest review.
I can not tell you enough how much I loved this story. This story is unraveling a seductive and mysterious
plot that I could not get enough of. I could not put this down because the story kept you gripping for more!
This author's writing is a work of art. The art of introducing characters that feel real with rigid edges to both
main characters. Romance that has you pulling for a love that is tangled and imperfect but has you pulling for
them. Now I'm hooked, and must patiently wait with for the next installment!.....
I'll try not to stalk Ruth too much for the next book, but can tell you This is well worth the read.
Well done Ruth!!

My Book Reviews - Blood Beyond Darkness by Stacey Marie Brown

Blood Beyond Darkness

It’s with tears in my eyes as I write this review based of off Stacey Marie Browns Darkness of Light final installment.
Stacey’s superb writing continues to shine through with this extraordinary – mind-blowing final conclusion to one of my most favorite series.

The book takes off right where Dwellers of Darkness left off.   Eli and Embers relationship is one where the course-plotting begins!  Can you say HAWT!!!!  The chemistry between these two is sizzling hot as you can’t wait to get to the next page to ensure you stay up with the irresistible power from their sensual relinquishing lust for each other.

Stacey created many render you speechless relationships for all of the characters in the series that they can’t just be listed out.  You will feel as though they are part of you as you read the book and feel the heartache, laughter, struggles and loss that keep you on your seat wanting more and more.
Stacey went all out to give us new and old fans an incredible read, and she hit it out of the park with this final chapter of the series.

I didn’t want this series to end, but can tell you that I’m looking forward to her next adventure that Stacey Marie Brown will take all of us on.

It will be a wild and exceptional ride that I’m all saddled up for.    This book will not disappoint you; however you may have an overwhelming response to cry to know that the chapter of Eli and Ember  have concluded.

Exceptional Stacey, simply Exceptional

I was given the honor of being a part of the audience who was lucky enough to receive an ARC of the “His Frozen Heart”

Nancy’s superb writing continues to shine through with this incredible story around Candy, her friend Libby and a long lost friend from high school Dave who led a very secluded life.

Candy’s friend and roommate Libby was a pool hustler who would place wagers on pool games to help put food on the table only when needed. When a bet goes amiss one night, Candy finds her world turned upside down as all of a sudden her friend has been attacked and the assaulter is now after her and no one is safe.

As Candy tries to find out who Libby’s attacker is before he finds her, she runs across an old friend, Dave. As she and Dave reconnect, Candy starts to realize that Dave’s past is not what she thought it was. Dave can either be the answer Candy needs in her life or the source of her nightmares. Will she uncover the facts she needs before it’s too late? Can’t give any spoilers, you will need to read to find out.

I flew through this book and couldn't put it down. His Frozen Heart is definitely a page turner on your seat, grabbing your sheets type of read.  You don’t know what will happen on the next page.  The intensity around the mystery and the devotion for each other- has you spellbound!  This is a must read for fans of suspenseful romance.  Well done Nancy, well done!
